PBS Unplugged: What They Don’t Teach You About Implementation
From “Great on Paper” to “Actually Works”
You write strong PBS plans. But plans don’t fail on paper – they fail at implementation.
The Practice Navigator™ equips Behaviour Support Practitioners with the systems, strategies, and influence skills required to translate PBS plans into sustained, real-world practice change, even when you don’t have formal authority, ideal conditions, or stable teams.
If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place
-
- You write evidence-based PBS plans that aren’t implemented consistently;
- You’re accountable for outcomes without control over staffing, routines, or leadership decisions;
- Fidelity drifts, staff turnover resets progress, and you’re constantly troubleshooting
You know what to do clinically – but getting others to do it is the hardest part; - Most PBS plans don’t fail because of poor assessment or weak intervention design – They fail because implementation breaks down;
- Implementation is rarely taught;
The Gap This Program Closes
Research consistently shows that implementation fidelity predicts outcomes, not intervention sophistication. Yet most professional training focuses on assessment and plan design, leaving practitioners underprepared for the realities of implementation.
The Practice Navigator™ addresses this gap directly.
This is not generic advice. This program tackles the real conditions of practice: high staff turnover, competing priorities, limited authority, and complex organisational dynamics.
What You’ll Learn
Across four targeted workshops and two guided Q&A sessions, you’ll learn how to:
-
- Build implementation systems that support fidelity without administrative overload;
- Select behavioural procedures based on contextual fit, not theoretical preference;
- Accelerate implementer skill development using proven behavioural skills training and coaching methods;
- Secure stakeholder commitment and follow-through without relying on positional authority;
Every session delivers tools you can apply immediately within your current caseload.
This Is Not Introductory Content
Participants are expected to have solid grounding in PBS principles, functional assessment, and intervention design.
This program challenges you to shift your role:
-
- From plan author to implementation strategist;
- From external expert to embedded partner;
- From hoping for fidelity to engineering it;
Implementation mastery is what separates competent practitioners from exceptional ones. The Practice Navigator™ addresses this gap directly.

Who Is Fiona?
Dr Fiona J Davis is a current practising Specialist Developmental Educator and Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner, and clinical leader with deep and grounded expertise in Positive Behaviour Support, implementation science, and practice leadership within complex service systems.
Her work focuses on bridging the gap between technically sound PBS plans and real-world implementation. Drawing on implementation science, organisational behaviour management, and adult learning theory, Fiona supports practitioners to lead change, build sustainable systems, and achieve outcomes even without formal authority.
The Practice Navigator™ program reflects how Fiona works in practice: evidence-informed, strategically grounded, and designed for the realities practitioners face every day.
What Practitioners Are Saying
This program finally put words and structure around what I was struggling with in practice. It helped me see where implementation was breaking down and how to fix it, without burning myself or my team out.
The biggest shift for me was moving from feeling frustrated and reactive to feeling strategic and confident in how I lead the implementation phase.
From an implementing provider perspective, this program helped me understand not just behavioural responses, but how to support BSPs, build collaborative relationships, and support my staff while meeting compliance requirements.
